Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that emphasizes ground fighting and submission holds to control and defeat an opponent. You'll learn to control and submit opponents in a friendly and challenging environment.
Jiu Jitsu teaches children self-defense, discipline, and physical fitness through ground-fighting techniques and submission holds. Kids will build their confidence and develop a solid foundation in BJJ, regardless of their skill level.

In Jiu Jitsu, you will start off as a White Belt. You must attain four stripes on each belt before being eligible to advance to the next colored belt. Each stripe on your belt equals a level in Jiu Jitsu. Once you receive 4 stripes on your White Belt, you are eligible for Blue Belt and the same process goes for Purple Belt and Brown Belt up to Black. Once a Black Belt, you will earn stripes also known as degrees.

The goal of children training Jiu Jitsu is to have them at a Blue Belt level by the time they are 16 years old. Kids can start in Jiu Jitsu as young as 5 years old in our program and work their way through the belts up to being 16 years old. At 16, they can work towards their Blue, Purple, Brown and Black Belts.

It is up to each instructor to decide how long it takes for a student to be graded, as long as the minimum times required for each belt are fulfilled.

No experience is necessary and all levels of fitness can enjoy learning at Blackstone Jiu Jitsu. In ourgym, we train as a team and all levels are welcome to train with us. We encourage all our teammates to help develop other students, that way we get better as a whole.
Initially, nothing other than an open mind, a water bottle, and workout attire. If you wish to progress after the trial week, you will need to purchase a Jiu Jitsu GI. It is the standard uniform that we use to learn Jiu Jitsu. We also ask that you refrain from wearing watches, earrings, rings, bracelets as it is a full contact sport.
Regardless of your fitness level, Jiu Jitsu will help you get in shape or keep you there.
At Blackstone Jiu Jitsu, safety is our priority. Accidents may happen, but it is expected of all students to behave responsibly and be serious during training as carelessness can result in injury. With that said, this is a combat sport and there is a saying: "Get comfortable being uncomfortable." If you can be comfortable being uncomfortable, you'll be prepared to handle whatever situation comes along in your own life.
No, competing in Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) tournaments is not required to train or earn a belt promotion. In fact, only a small percentage of Jiu Jitsu practitioners compete, and most of those who do only compete a few times. However, some say that competing can be a tool for self-improvement and can help you learn and grow.
If you do wish to compete, we can help you prepare! Our instructors are experienced competitors and Blackstone Jiu Jitsu is an official registered academy with the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF)
